Rustic Streets

Words by Matt Huxley

Khaki is not usually the shade I reach for first when in a store. I’ll flat out admit it. So why am I choosing it as the focal point for my first “proper” blog post? I have no idea. I’m not Terri or Bindi Irwin I swear.

My aversion to Khaki has been overcome little by little over the past year. Firstly #militarychic came back in, and naturally that got me just a little moist. Then designers started working it into their collections – think Balmain, Loewe and Marc Jacobs.

Then fate struck and I was invited to the Cotton On Brisbane flagship opening. Voila, sitting right at the back of the store, on the lowest shelf, were a pair of Khaki chinos in my size. Bayum! They’re super wearable, and comfortable as well. I opted for the straight leg cut, and it’s now in regular rotation throughout both my summer and winter wardrobes.

I teamed this look with double black; a pleather-sleeve tee from Topman that I’ve been loving lately, and a pair of boots that I dug up from god knows where. Perfecting for workin boy on the go.
