How To Do Casual Right

Words by Matt Huxley

The amount of fuckery I see when it comes to casual wear is just beyond me. This article could essentially be comprised of two points:

  1. Thongs are not shoes unless they are havaianas.
  2. Board shorts are unacceptable unless you’re 6 or are actually on a beach.

But then that wouldn’t be very interesting reading would it?

Nailing that casual, effortless, model off duty look, can be tricky. But luckily I’m here to guide you through it.

Firstly, it’s easy to just go classic. Try the trickier fabrics and lengths later on (don’t be whipping out the neoprene if you can’t rock a classic cotton first ya hear?)

I’ve decided to opt for the classic black v neck. This will not only make you look thinner, but it’ll literally go with everything. I’ve teamed it with my current fave ripped jeans. The acid wash is having a real moment now, and you can make it more contemporary (and flattering) by rolling it up one or two turns at the ankle.

The choice of shoe is really up to you. If you want to be on the classier side of casual, pick a brogue or monk strap. If, like me, you want to be a bit more comfortable, choose an espadrille. A classic white or black will always be best.

Of course you need to follow me on Instagram and Snapchat @infirmofpurpose, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Bloglovin and Lookbook.
