My Top 5 Moisturisers

Words by Matt Huxley

Moisturisers are a necessary part of every guy and gal’s skincare routine. They serve to lock in moisture and essential oils after cleaning your face. They also hydrate dry skin and many contain vitamins and nutrients that are essential for skin health. Now that the technical stuff is out of the way, let’s be real. Moisturiser makes our skin look and feel amazing, but there’s a shitload out on the market, so here are my top 5 favourite facial moisturisers. I’ve specifically left out body products, because the skin on your face is so much more delicate than that on your body, and it really requires a much more specific formula. So let’s get into it!

5. Garnier Moisture Match Hydrating Cream

This ultra rich cream is specifically for dry skin. Look, it’s not my favourite, and I wouldn’t repurchase it. I find that it has a lot of unnecessary fragrances and colours in it that aren’t the best for skin, and I haven’t had the best reaction I typically only use it when I need a break from my others. It’ll do the job, but in my opinion it won’t do it the best. I have loved Garnier moisturisers in the past, but yeah, this one doesn’t do it for me.

4. Indeed Skincare Hydraluron Moisture Jelly

Now this one, I love. Ordinarily I’d be a bit wary of a jelly moisturiser as I wouldn’t immediately think that it would provide the same level of moistness as say a cream, but actually it does. It’s super hydrating and absorbs really quickly, so it’s perfect for a day cream. I find that this works especially well over a serum, and that’s primarily when I use it.

3. Cetaphil Moisturising Cream

Formulated for really dry, sensitive skin, this is the perfect moisturiser to suit anyone. It contains nothing harmful and provides a great level of moisture. It’s really only suitable as a night cream because it doesn’t absorb particularly quickly, but it leaves your skin super soft and supple. It’s also great to mix in with a facial oil if you want that extra burst of hydration.

2. Simple Light Moisturiser

Now this is the perfect day moisturiser. I honestly have been through about 5 bottles of this stuff. It’s amazing. I use it every morning after my shower and it absorbs super quickly and easily, whilst leaving my face hydrated all day. It’s really thin so if you’ve shaved or something you’re able to layer it up to soothe rough or irritated skin. You. Need. This. Now.

1. Moogoo Udder Cream

I’ve been talking about this stuff far too much lately. But that’s only because it’s truly amazing. I was introduced to this product roughly a month ago and since then it’s udderly (see what I did there) transformed my skin. My only issue with it is that it can take some working in to absorb. But I partially think that’s also why it’s so good. It forces you to put effort into your skin and improving the appearance. My top tip is to start with a tiny amount and then work that in with small circular motions, then repeat. You won’t regret it.

And yes. I did write this article partially because it enabled me to say moist a lot.
