Races Fashion 101

Words by Matt Huxley

Spring has most definitely sprung, and that can only mean two things: Jacaranda’s are out in bloom all over the place, and it’s races season.

Whilst I’m admittedly not a races fanatic, the opportunity to get all dressed up for public admiration is something that I’m never going to shy away from. Fashion is a major part of the races culture, and whether you’re Jean Shrimpton in a white shift, or Samara Nilsson struggling with a playsuit, you’re going to be the centre of attention. So you may as well wear something striking to give the people something to talk about.

For me, the classic combo of navy, camel and red is one that you just can’t go by. Whilst a traditional summery suit might be the quintessential races outfit, wearing separates is also totally acceptable – and something a little bit different.

I’ve teamed this textured navy blazer with camel chinos, boots, a red pocket square, a white v neck (swap to a button up if you want to be dressier), stacks of rings and a houndstooth black and white scarf. It may sound like a lot, but all together it works.
